MK Lakers are a korfball club based in Milton Keynes. We offer coached korfball for young people from aged 9-16 and adult coaching for the over 16’s. All abilities are welcome. We currently have two adults teams and an Academy team playing in a local league under the SMKA (South Midlands Korfball Association) and our first team play in the SERL Regional league. We offer two coached training sessions per week for our adult members – Monday’s for our SMKA players and an additional session on Wednesday’s for our First & Second team squad. Training for our Academy players is on a Wednesday evening. We run a year round programme, with winter training and matches indoors, and summer training & matches outdoors.
Korfball is played indoors most of the year, with a shorter outdoor season in the summer. It’s a bit like netball, a bit like basketball – but BETTER! ‘Korf’ is the Dutch word for basket, and korfball would be grouped with basketball and netball but is distinct from both those games in several ways. It is a mixed gender team game of 4 men and 4 women per team.
