Match Reports Sunday 3rd November 2013

An action packed day saw both Lakers teams in action against Harrow 2 at Bletchley Leisure centre. Both coming out with wins, it turned out to be a very positive experience!

First on court saw Lakers W undertake their second match of the season, coming from the defeat against MK Bucks, they were certainly up for the challenge…

…and they didn’t disappoint with their first win of the season.

Match report from captain Nicki:

Playing against a mainly junior team, Harrow 2, Lakers were able to put some quality drills into action; showing good shape in attack, taking lots of shots that were excellently recycled and defending tightly.
This afternoon the scoring was nicely spread between the divisions. In the first 5 minutes we saw 2 cheeky goals from Kerry that got the frenzy started. New Milton Keynes korfers Dan and Emma contributed 3 and 2 goals respectively in their debut match (with Dan’s go-go-gadget arms causing much frustration in the Harrow camp too!) Old timer Alan also showed his consistency by adding the other 2 goals in our 9-2 win to his tally.
Well done to the whole team, we definitely had Harrow scraping around for limited shooting opportunities and we tired them out nicely in preparation for our sister team’s match, you’re welcome Lakers M!!!

Lakers team list: Dan, Mark, Alan, Colin, Kerry, Nicki, Emma and Kelly (guest).

Next on court were Lakers M, looking for a win in their first match of the season, and having just seen the Wednesday team’s success, they were certainly feeling confident.

Match report from Captain Kelly:

On Sunday Lakers got their korfball season off to a good start with a home win against Harrow 2.   After a shaky start with the first goal coming from Harrow, Lakers soon settled into their stride with Lakers veteran Katie Ellis being the first to score for the team, shortly followed by newcomer Dan Wood scoring from a free pass.  A few fouls on both sides – from simple lack of game time – allowed both teams to practice their set plays – with Jim brilliantly chasing down a Harrow free pass.  Tracey pulled off a blinding long shot before half time after complaining she was feeling rusty!

Half time the score was 4-1 to Lakers.

In the second half the more experienced Lakers team dominated play to score a further 10 goals as Mark was subbed for Alan who came on to score 4 of those 10 goals in just half a match. Some lovely play sees lakers winning with a final result of 14-2.

Players and scorers: Katie – 3, Cecile -1, Jim – 1, Grant – 1, Mark S (guest), Dan W (guest) – 3, Jo L, Tracy – 1, Alan (guest) – 4 (in half a game – yikes!)
